Emotional Factors in Product Design

Abstract:



Today the commercial products become more and more competitive.
It is difficult for us to distinct the basic products in the technical level, quality, price and so on. Most of different brand of the products have the same similar in the market function, quality, prices, and so on. Therefore, the advertising is usually focused on the consumersˋpurchase and ownership of the attractions of the "emotional interest.”The first feeling of the products is a decisive role in consumer decision-making. Designers should pay the most attention to emotional factors in the design. The article mainly from the following three points: 1. How products can trigger feelings. 2. How to describe a product that contains the emotional factors. 3. Designers how to design Products better and take advantage of these emotional factors.

With the continuous development of society and quality of life of the people, Products have been given the more functions and People growth demand on the spiritual level of product. We pay more attention the emotional aspects and the emotional characteristics of the product itself and users of the emotional and psychological response. Products not only satisfy the users with the functional material, but also with the spirit of functional products. From personal experience we know that products will trigger a strong emotional reaction. These emotions of the products will not only affect the decision to buy the product, but also feeling of use it. Product design and methods using in a variety of products affect people's mood, feeling emotional impact. Even the simplest of products can make people having complicated feelings. For example, the beautiful product would make people have a strong desire and glad to have nice things. When we use products, we often have some doubts, disturbed and so on.
1. How products can trigger feelings
(1) What is the feeling?
Passion is innate characteristics, the role of outsiders in ourselves when a physiological response. This reaction can be divided into two categories. The first "impression" .That is a change in the outside world: things such as weather, as for the physical, will produce cold, heat, cold, warm feeling, but the only response and no sense, therefore, that can only be regarded as a "feeling." However, because of changes in weather also caused sorrow, joy and worry, like other physiological responses. And the physiological response of this kind is not only emotionally but also unreliable, so called "feelings."


"Feelings" and "feelings" are things outside of a role in their physiological responses, although the two are different. It is inseparable from the internal links; it referred to as the "emotional reaction." Passion is an important component of one's personality.

Emotion is decided by the needs and expectations. When the needs and aspirations of people would have been satisfied with pleasure, the emotional favorite, needs and expectations are not met. Be distressed sickening feeling.
(2) How the product can trigger feelings
Emotional trigger products vary from person to person, the same product for different people experience and feel is different. It is difficult to find product design and the relationship between emotional responses. However, we can still trigger feelings of the whole process to find potential law.
Emotional trigger product plans, we can see that it gives us an incentive to product with t their own expectations, aesthetic standards attitude measure. The product will eventually lead to emotional reactions. This emotional reaction is characterized by the following:
1). Products vary from the emotional trigger; different people have different experience and feel of the same products. Due to the cultural background, level of knowledge, aesthetic standards, the different living habits, people have different attitude to the desired goals, benchmarks. It would be a completely different product with an emotional reaction that is not surprising.
2). Such a feeling everyone has timeliness: personal expectations, standards and attitudes will change with changing of the age and environment. There often have different reactions with the same product in different stages.

3). Such emotions are composite. We may have some different feelings in the same product. It is precisely because we have a diverse of evaluation factors, the sentiment is usually not a single one.
2. Description and evaluation of emotional factors contained in the products
Designers design the product, in addition to considering function of the product, but also giving a certain pattern. And morphology can show some character. People use products that the kinds of information that give raise to different feelings. When the designers design the appearance and texture of the products, the feel is a sense of aesthetic experience. The user will have a good emotional feeling. Modern products generally convey two types of information, one is rational information: materials and crafts; another was the emotional information, such as product designs, colors, and the method of using. The first information base on the former, while the latter is more associated with the product shape.
To describe the emotional reaction of the products, there are no established evaluation criteria at present, unified model. The author attempts through different concept of adjectives to describe the feeling of people in emotional product information, (including the appearance of

products, the mix of colors, visual coordination, and methods of using… etc.) directly or indirectly feelings. These feelings and reactions is from people, including behavior, performance, mental, emotional and other aspects of subjective considerations. According to people's preference we evaluate the product, by analyzing the degree of preference and adjectives decision of the relationship between design directions
3. Designers how to design Products better and take advantage of these emotional factors.
After Anglicizing emotional factors, description and evaluation mode
Of the products. As a designer, how a designer uses the emotional factors of the users into the design of our organization. So we can design and develop the physical and psychological products from the target user.
To let users successfully use the products, and the products must have the same the mode of thinking; this means designers need model of thinking and consistent like as the user’s model of thinking. Designers though these products talk with the users. Users can truly feel that the feelings of such meaning that designers want to convey. At the beginning of creative design designers must fully understand the users, including the age levels, cultural backgrounds, aesthetic appeal, the concept of time, psycho
-Logical needs, the user-friendly environment. In order to design products which integrate into the life and the use of the environment. In the process of design we should also allow users to participate in the design in order to make the design center has being around the goal of users. In the end the product is closer to the needs of users.
(2) Thoughts on the shape, color and material, and other products constitute elements affecting the target users of the psychological impact
If we are good at summarizing elements that are bases on rules of user psychological impact, we will design the good products. Here are some element, colors, materials and other elements that is summed up by the users:
1). Refined, upscale feeling: natural transition between the parts, refined surface texture and harmonious colors.
2). The feeling of safety: unaware of the full shape of sophisticated technology, the color of anger and reasonable size.
3). Female feeling: gentle curve shapes, and delicate surface treatment, gorgeous soft colors.
4). Male feeling: a sense of linear modeling, simple on the surface, cold color palette.
5). Lovely soft feeling: gentle curve shape, and clean / the shaggy texture and rich colors jump.
6). Lithe feeling: simple shapes, and fine / smooth texture and soft colors. 7). Thick, strong sense of feeling: a sense of linear modeling, rough texture, and color shades cold.
8). Popular feeling: not too many physical changes color shades cold.
9). Gorgeous feeling: the extensive changes in the senior material. Main higher purity warm color system, a strong contrast colors.
We have only pointed out the forms, colors, and the elements of the mechanism of the product broadly emotional relationship, Designers through the shapes, color, texture and other elements of the rational combination, Communication and motivate of the users with their own past life experiences or behavior.
We achieve human-environment-products coordination and matching, living in the inner feelings of pleasure and delight and tend to upgrade our lives that was cordial, comfortable, relaxed, happy, dignity, calm, security, freedom, and energetic.
In short, the system of the product is a complex emotion. It is believed that if we consider more the emotional of the products, the value of the products is higher. We must require the designer having the quality Knowledge. This requires not only technical but also thinking, it is undoubtedly a quality designer challenges.
